Chrome Plated Products
This how to guide will help ensure your chrome plated products such as, brass floor waste grates, shower waste grates and bath wastes, keep their top-quality finish always.
It is important to continually clean your floor waste grates using a non-abrasive metal cleaner and soft cloth, to ensure their finish remains un-tarnished and hygienic. When not cleaned regularly, these grates may quickly take on a tarnished or rusted appearance.
Due to a variety of waste, such as soap residues, liquids and hairs passing through the drain, or even moisture in the air, small black spots can appear on the grates. If left unattended, the spots will multiply and spread across the surface of the grate. These unsightly spots are bacterial spores attaching to the chrome and multiplying. If left unchecked for extended periods of time, this can cause permanent damage to the chrome finish.
Even bathrooms which are not regularly used, can be impacted by these bacterial spores. Keeping this in mind, it is important to regularly clean and remove any spots, using a non-abrasive metal cleaner and soft cloth, to ensure the integrity of the chrome finish.
This is not an isolated problem affecting only Austworld grates and these cleaning and care tips will be useful in maintaining other chrome finished household items.
Here are some general rules for cleaning:
- Do not use any abrasive products, caustic cleaners, or tools (scouring cream, scouring pads, microfibre cloths).
- Never leave cleaning products to work for longer than necessary.
- Calcification and bacterial spores can be prevented by regular cleaning.
- Use non-abrasive metal cleaner and soft cloth.
- Never apply cleaning solution directly onto grates. Apply onto the soft cloth first, then use for cleaning.
For best results at removing a tarnished appearance, we recommend using an approved metal cleaner such as Gumption, CLR or soft metal polish which can be purchased at most reputable hardware supply stores.
