Gutter Trash

It’s no secret that living in a home brings about a lot of maintenance both inside and outside. One area that often gets neglected are the roof gutters.

Your gutters need regular maintenance and cleaning to make sure they are still doing their job.

Your roof gutters work to get water off your roof and direct them to downpipes and stormwater drains, if uncontrolled it can cause water damage to your roof, foundation of your home and surrounds by flooding areas around and under your roof.

In order for your gutters to do their job, they need to be clear to allow the water to flow. Unfortunately, gutters don't just channel rainwater they catch leaves, seeds, dirt, twigs, and debris that build up over time and block your gutter system.

Depending on the proximity of plants, vegetation around your property and local area, it's best to work on the basis of cleaning your gutters at least twice a year, we suggest early summer to beat that Aussie heat and after Autumn.

What you'll need to safely clean your gutters:

  • Heavy duty work gloves
  • Safety glasses
  • Plastic bucket with a sturdy handle
  • Leaf scooper if the litter is wet or a leaf blower if is dry.
  • Garden hose &
  • A strong and reliable ladder

If the frequency of cleaning your gutters is getting too much for you, you can always outsource it to a professional or consider installing gutter guards made from mesh, brush, or foam. If your gutters are on the weaker side, it might be wise to consider upgrading your gutters to handle the amount of debris that lands on your roof due to your surrounding environment.
